Sprint to invest $7B in networks in 2007

Sprint Nextel said it will invest more than $7 billion to upgrade its networks--especially to upgrade the majority of its mobile broadband networks to EVDO Rev. A. Some of the money will also go toward building out its next generation WiMAX network. Sprint said it will invest $1.4 billion in its wireline network, which also serves as a backhaul for its wireless networks. Sprint said in the release that it has 20 million push-to-talk users on the Nextel National Network.
"We're delivering for them by investing in networks that give customers the power to do what they want and need to do with their wireless service," Kathy Walker, chief network officer for Sprint, "including downloading music, getting directions, accessing the latest weather report and checking email fast, and on the go.
