iPod turns eight years on 23rd Oct

MP3 format had already become popular. But MP3 players was in 2000 clumsy and challenging to operate, and it took almost an engineering degree to get players to sing along with PCs to get tracks onto it. Apple saw the opportunity and launched its first iPod, 23 October 2001.

The first iPod was equipped with 5 or 10 GB hard drive. Compared to competing manufacturers, who had 2.5 "hard drives, had the iPod 1.8" which made the iPod any less. It had a mechanical click wheel and were exclusively Mac-compatible FireWire.

Later, in 2003, opened its doors to the Apple iTunes Music Store, which has helped to make it into the icon it is today, while it changed the music industry forever.
