Nokia is still bought more than any mobile

According to research company Gartenr who looked at mobil markdet for 2009, a total of 1.211 billion phones worldwide, a slight decrease of 0.9% over the previous year.

Looking at how sales are distributed among the individual producers, so it is again Nokia, which has sold the most, with over 440 million phones. It gives the Finnish company a market share of 36.4%, representing a decrease of 2.2 percentage points compared to 2008.

After Nokia find Samsung in second place and LG third with respectively 19.5% and 10.1% of the world market. Both companies have thus experienced increases in their market, because in 2008 was respectively 16.3% and 8.4%.

Turn your handsets into Digital Wallets

The UK’s big five mobile phone firms have switched on a payment system that turns handsets into digital wallets.

Soon you could be paying for parking with a handset , called PayForIt, the scheme is designed for those buying goods and services with a value of up to £10.

The industry hopes it will be used to pay for ringtones, train tickets, parking fees and eventually as a payment system on web shops and sites.

Any cash spent via the scheme will automatically be added on to a customer’s phone bill.

Ovi! Nokia's Newly introduced Internet Service

Nokia is expanding from a focus on mobile devices to offering a range of Internet services. Ovi, meaning 'door' in Finnish, enables consumers to easily access their existing social network, communities and content, as well as acting as a gateway to Nokia services.

As part of Ovi, Nokia announced the Nokia Music Store and N-Gage, two services that make it easy for people to discover, try and buy music and games from a blockbuster range of artists and publishers, including exclusive content only available through Nokia. Also under the Ovi umbrella is Nokia Maps, a navigation service that offers maps, city guides and more directly to compatible mobile devices. Nokia aims to bring more Internet based services to Ovi in the coming months.

Speaking at the Nokia Go Play event in London, Nokia President and Chief Executive Officer Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo presented Ovi and the new Nokia services for consumers, and spoke about the company's future plans as an Internet company: "The industry is converging towards Internet driven experiences and Ovi represents Nokia's vision in combining the Internet and mobility. Nokia is the number one mobile device company in the world. Looking into the future, we will deliver great devices, combined with compelling experiences and services, to make it easy for people to unlock the potential of the Internet."

India Leading the Nokia's Mobile Market

According to some latest news and researches, India is leading the Nokia's mobile market, passing the United States for the first time. China remains the only country to have a larger market share.

In addition, as of this month, the handset manufacturer's factory in Sriperumbudur, Chennai, has exported 60 million phones to 58 countries. Nokia Siemens Network recently announced its intention to invest $100 million to develop Indian telecommunications over the next three years.

Once Again, Nokia Ahead!!!!!

According to one of the article of Brad Smith from Wireless Week, a new survey shows more wireless developers expect to write applications for Nokia platforms as Nokia headsets are more in sales in market. In the United States, where Motorola has been the leading brand, the survey finds it also has been the leading developer platform.

The survey was done by Evans Data, which lauded Nokia for what it called a "world-class" developer program under Forum Nokia. The program, says Evans Data President John Andrews, "has been crucial in solidifying their developer base in Europe and successfully developing markets in Asia ."

The Evans Data survey of about 400 developers also found 64% of them were writing some open source applications, and that half of them are using location-based information.

IPR wars: Nokia vs. QualcommContents

The patent licensing dispute between Nokia and Qualcomm has all the signs of becoming an epic battle on intellectual property rights (IPR). The results may or may not show the direction for the development of industrial rights for decades to come.
The basic question is how to measure the value of the patents. Qualcomm seems to be saying that their patents on radio communications methods are so basic and important that their value is both very high and has not diminished over the past 20 years.
Nokia is basing its claims on the number of patents it has in mobile communications systems and devices. Nokia says that the relative value of Qualcomm’s patents is going down while Qualcomm’s share of all the patents in use becomes smaller.
Nokia also claims that some of Qualcomm’s patent rights have expired and the companies had an agreement that lets Nokia make use of these patents in the future without any compensation. However, it seems that in the patent law world things do not work this simply. If the environment changes and increases the usefulness of the patent, the original patent holder might have extra rights.
In this situation we have no clear-cut measurement method to determine the value of the patents and, moreover, the lifetime of these patents is uncertain.
Finding a solution for this dilemma is a mission impossible. I anticipate lengthy negotiations, several arbitration courts, and maybe a few years in both the EU and US court systems. Neither party wants to sign anything that might commit them to uncertain long-term solutions.
Over the years as technology moves forward these patents lose their importance. Meanwhile the parties arrive at temporary solutions that they can both live with. Before that happens both parties use all the legal means and publicity possible to lobby their cases.
Should Qualcomm and Nokia find acceptable methods for setting the value of their patents, all IPR holders and users will applaud loudly.
