“It is hard to fit in all of the content from a PC game into a PDA, but the secret is to focus on the essence of what is most important about the game, and to convey that experience in the best way possible”, says Howard Tomlinson, CEO Astrware.
What types of games and softwares you have in your portfolio and which platforms you have been mainly working for?
We’ve had a range of game styles – puzzle games and action games have been most popular, because they are appropriate for the small devices and can be played easily in small bites of time.
Most of our effort so far has been on Palm OS and Windows Mobile, including Windows Mobile for Smartphone (now called “Windows Mobile Standard”). We’ve recently been working on extra platforms, including Mobile Linux and Palm’s Foleo, and we’ll be adding more phone platforms in the future too.

Forecast: Mobile gaming to exceed $20B by 2010
The worldwide mobile gaming market will cross the $20 billion threshold by 2010, representing a compound annual growth rate of 58 percent over the decade, says market research firm Global Industry Analysts in a new report.
GIA credits the growth of disposable income in developing nations as a significant catalyst behind the spike in mobile game interest. According to GIA, downloadable games are more popular than subscription-based models, and represents the fastest-growing segment, with an anticipated $10.7 billion in revenue by 2009.

Forecast: Mobile gaming to $9.6B by 2011
A new forecast issued by information technology research firm Gartner reports worldwide mobile gaming revenue will grow to $4.3 billion in 2007, up 50 percent from the previous year. Gartner also anticipates global revenues of $9.6 billion by 2011, citing accelerating consumer awareness as well as expanded content availability. According to the forecast, mobile gaming revenue in Asia/Pacific and Japan will surpass $1.8 billion in 2007, growing to $4.6 billion by 2011--a reflection of the overwhelming appetite for gaming in the region. On the other hand, Gartner says North American mobile gaming revenue will reach $716.9 million in 2007 and $1.7 billion in 2011, citing slower consumer adoption of wireless technologies.
"Given the ubiquity of mobile phones in many markets and the ease of game-play, mobile gaming is expected to reach more of the global population than has been the case for traditional PC and console gaming," said Gartner senior research analyst Tuong Huy Nguyen in a prepared statement. "This will catapult mobile gaming revenue beyond that from mobile TV and adult content, but we still expect it to lag behind mobile music, since music is a more familiar form of entertainment."
