Google services, Blogspot and Blogger, housing many different blogs, including several with a focus on music. Lately, the Internet giant, however, removed a number of popular blogs that have existed for several years.

At Google, it is thought that these blogs breaking copyright laws because they have received complaints about the material which can be downloaded on the sides, known as DMCA complaints (Digital Millennium Copyright Act).

Complainants, however, according to the people behind the various blogs unfounded, as they have been allowed to reproduce the material, typical of the music companies' PR agencies or the artists themselves.

The announcement gives Google does not have much and calls for bloggers to come up with a DMCA modklage. It is however problematic, since many do not know the procedure for how to do this, and even if they do, they often do not know what specific music file has complained.

UltraIM Pro! Latest MSN Mobile Application in the market

UltraIM Pro is the best, feature-rich mobile MSN client. It supports not only text chatting, Smileys, but also files and photos sharing between MSN clients and mobile MSN clients. Furthermore, UltraIM Pro also supports other advanced MSN features, like "MSN display picture" changing and receiving. This software is really the best MSN mobile application that you can find. It is the most popular dedicated MSN mobile application and is recommended between MSN lovers.

Main AdvantageSend photos or files to your MSN friends via absolute peer-to-peer way. UltraIM Pro supports genuine P2P file sending like real MSN does. Unlike other mobile instant messengers on the market, most of them upload photos or files to their server first, then notify your MSN friend to download them again. UltraIM Pro sends photos and files to your MSN friends directly, never passed by our server!
The only mobile messenger supports "MSN display picture" changing and receiving! UltraIM Pro is the only mobile messenger that supports "MSN display picture" and utilizes the power of your camera phone. All you have to do is to take pictures and set it as your display picture in UltraIM Pro, then buddies chatting with you will see the picture automatically! The picture sharing is implemented by peer-to-peer technology, never passed by any server. Once the picture is transferred it won`t be transferred again, because receivers have cached the picture, just like real MSN does!

UltraIM Pro is real proxyless. Why proxyless is very important? It means you can connect as a standard MSN client without any compromise. And connecting to the public MSN network directly can save you money by reducing network flow significantly. In order to provide a fast, economical and full-functionality service, UltraIM Pro connects you directly to the public MSN network, not via proxy server.

No more interested in Google Page Rank?

According to the latest discussion on Google Page ranks, Toolbar PR is not just a harmless toy or an entertainment.

Toolbar PageRank numbers can be 3 months out of date or more. Some "PR Updates" have been buggy enough to seriously misrepresent a page's real PR. But despite these openly discussed flaws, the toolbar "report" affects the web culture in many ways - and most of them are negative.

Matt Cutts has blogged that PR Updates are considered pretty much a non-event around Google. But when that "non-event" is also buggy (because Google sees it as unimportant?), then some advertisers will not pay fair value to a website for hosting their ads. That's not entertaining at all, and it's no longer a non-event.

Bones says:

"The PR indicator is probably the only reason why many SEO folks have the Googlebar installed. Remove the TBPR and lose a big Googlebar user base also. "

Google has been upfront about that. Their engineers constantly tell us the toolbar is not for webmasters to make business decisions off of or for ranking better, or for unraveling what the secret sauce is. The fault belongs squarely with webmasters for being lazy by doing what everybody else is doing and ignorant for not researching it for themselves and seeing the answer coming straight from Google engineers. Yeah they're going to backpedal enough to keep you using it, but we all know it's not useful for SEO purposes.

After iPhone, Now its G-Phone Turn

It is a common news these days that Google is trying to jump into the mobile phone market, with a report today on the The Wall Street Journal's Website that says the search giant has been in talks with carriers such as T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless about technical specs and about carrying handsets optimized to run Google applications.

The Journal, citing people familiar with the project, also said that Google has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in its mobile phone project, and has already developed prototype handsets. Unlike Apple's exclusive deal with AT&T, the Journal reported that Google is hoping to forge deals with multiple manufacturers and offer the handsets through multiple carriers and that the phones will not necessarily carry the Google brand.

The phones are still very much in the planning stages, and consumers shouldn't expect to see them until next year at the earliest.

Google Talk! Development has been started again

According to Irene Chen,Wistron NeWeb has entered design-in development for Wi-Fi phones with Google Talk compatibility. The maker has been shipping Skype-enabled Wi-Fi phones to branded network-equipment vendors since late last year, according to company sources.
Shipments of Skype Wi-Fi phones could top 20,000-30,000 units a month in the second half of 2007, indicated the sources.

The Wi-Fi phones targeting the consumer segment will help drive revenues growth at Wistron in the future, said the sources.

The company has also stepped up its efforts to boost sales of its SIP (session initiation protocol) Wi-Fi phones to the telecoms sector in 2007, said the company sources, noting that the company previously focused on brand vendors for the production of the SIP Wi-Fi phones.

Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) and another Taiwan-based telecoms services provider have adopted VoIP solutions, which include CPE (customer premises equipment) products such as SIP Wi-Fi phones, offered by Wistron, the sources indicated.

Apple on it's way......

Apple and AT&T released the iPhone on June 29 in the US. The launch appears to have broken all records, including that of media hysteria, and by any measure it was a huge success. At this time, it appears that over the first three days alone Apple sold at least 500,000 iPhones — unsubsidized, unlike almost all other handsets sold in the US — which is more than the Motorola RAZR sold in its first month. In comparison, the iPhone has generated roughly 200m mentions on the Web, according to Google.

Whether the iPhone turns into a long-term success or not, however, the combination of excitement and fear it has stirred has already caused a number of changes in the mobile communications industry. Most important is that the device has raised user expectations— and not just for that superior design for which Apple is famous. The iPhone has already woken up a large portion of the market to the benefits of a menu-free, multi-touch user interface, to the idea of mobile Internet access, and to the opportunity in software and device integration.

Google’s green world

For those that don’t know, Google has a philanthropic arm: Google.org, that aims to make the world a better place. What is better (these days at least) than a green car? Nothing says Google. That is why it has invested $1 million in grants and launched the RechargeIT initiative.
The RechargeIT initiative aims to speed adoption of plug in cars, once believed to be dead. The RechargeIT Prius claims 73 mpg and a 68% reduction in greenhouse gasses. Additionally, Google will be charging these vehicles with power created by solar panels at the Google Campus. Sweet huh?

Watchdog group slams Google on privacy (AP)

SAN FRANCISCO - Google Inc.'s privacy practices are the worst among the Internet's top destinations, according to a watchdog group seeking to intensify the recent focus on how the online search leader handles personal information about its users.

In a report released Saturday, London-based Privacy International assigned Google its lowest possible grade. The category is reserved for companies with "comprehensive consumer surveillance and entrenched hostility to privacy."
None of the 22 other surveyed companies — a group that included Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO - news), Microsoft Corp. and AOL — sunk to that level, according to Privacy International.
While a number of other Internet companies have troubling policies, none comes as close to Google to "achieving status as an endemic threat to privacy," Privacy International said in an explanation of its findings.
In a statement from one of its lawyers, Google said it aggressively protects its users' privacy and stands behind its track record. In its most conspicuous defense of user privacy, Google last year successfully fought a U.S. Justice Department subpoena demanding to review millions of search requests.
"We are disappointed with Privacy International's report, which is based on numerous inaccuracies and misunderstandings about our services," said Nicole Wong, Google's deputy general counsel.
"It's a shame that Privacy International decided to publish its report before we had an opportunity to discuss our privacy practices with them."
Privacy International contacted Google earlier this month, but didn't receive a response, said Simon Davies, the group's director.
The scathing report is just the latest strike aimed at Google's privacy practices.
An independent European panel recently opened an inquiry into whether Google's policies abide by Europe's privacy rules.
Meanwhile, three consumer groups in the United States are pressuring the nation's regulators to make Google change some of its privacy policies as part of its proposed $3.1 billion acquisition of online ad service DoubleClick Inc., which also tracks Web surfers' behavior.
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is looking into antitrust concerns raised by the DoubleClick deal, but has not indicated if privacy issues will be part of the inquiry.
Hoping to placate its critics, Google has pledged to begin erasing the information about users' search requests within 18 to 24 months.

Google’s Attempt For Mobile Dominion

Google is planning a strong move into the mobile, to the possible extent of creating a mobile operating system to challenge Symbian, Windows and so on—although a more likely scenario is a complete suite of products which run on a variety of OS’s. “But it will undoubtedly take on the companies behind those systems at the higher software levels where the battle for power is most crucial - the user interface, mobile browser and content frameworks” argues The Register. So while the Google system will likely support Java it will compete against Sun’s JavaFX Mobile. This would be a better way to go than creating an OS and trying to get it widely accepted—there are already plenty around and most carriers are seeking to minimize the number of different systems they support. The article suggests that the newly announced Google Gears will play a major part of Google’s mobile strategy, since being able to work effectively offline (the intention of Gears) is more important on mobile than on PCs

Google's top five mobile moments

Google's top five mobile moments

Forget the company's WiFi initiatives, pervasive Google-branded handset rumors, Google MVNO rumors, Google-as-carrier speculation. Consider how the company's actual mobile product launches and comments about the mobile industry have left the industry reeling at times. Google's CEO Eric Schmidt just announced that the company is developing a number of mobile applications with mobile carriers around the world. So before the next big announcement hits, here's a look back at the top five Google-related maneuverings that left the mobile industry reeling:

1) Phones should be free: At the Web 2.0 conference in New York last November, Google CEO Eric Schmidt told reporters that mobile phones should be free: "It just makes sense that subsidies should increase" as advertising rises on mobile phones. Schmidt admits phones may never become totally free for the consumer, at least not outside of Hong Kong, but advertising will drive down the costs substantially, as it did for newspapers. Article

2) AdWords Go Mobile: The launch of Google's AdWords service for the mobile platform last September surely resonated throughout the industry as the new class of search startups took note of their accomplishments thus far and braced for the battle ahead. Google launched a mobile avatar for AdWords in the U.S., the U.K. and Germany and is testing mobile ads that enable Google's AdWords customers to place messages on Google mobile search results. The ads contained two lines of text with a limit of 12 or 18 characters per line. Article

3) The carriers are blocking our maps!: Chris Sacca, the head of special initiatives at Google, claimed mobile carriers had been lobbying the company to stop people from using Google Mobile Maps. Sacca informed the audience at Oxford University's Said Business School: "We've been getting notes from some of the telco carriers who are saying 'look, you need to stop your customers from downloading this thing.' They're inserting themselves between you and an application that you want--I think that has scary, scary implications." Article

4) We are buying YouTube: Last October, Google bought user-generated content video portal YouTube for a cool $1.65 billion. During an investor call that day, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said, "In the last 48 hours our engineers got together and came up with 20 or 30 different ways" that Google's technology could integrate with YouTube's. While YouTube has yet to launch in full on the mobile platform, it has inked deals for showcasing selected, pre-approved content for Verizon Wireless subscribers. I expect Google will launch YouTube unabridged for mobiles in the coming year.

5) The Dodgeball founders resign: This recent announcement marks what is perhaps the first setback for those optimistic about Google's future mobile domination. Dennis Crowley and Alex Rainert, co-founders of the mobile social networking service Dodgeball, announced their resignations from search giant Google, which acquired the property in May 2005. "It's no real secret that Google wasn't supporting Dodgeball the way we expected... The whole experience was incredibly frustrating for us--especially as we couldn't convince them that Dodgeball was worth engineering resources, leaving us to watch as other startups got to innovate in the mobile + social space." Article

So what do Schmidt and the engineers at Google have hidden in their handsets? Looks like we won't have to wait too much longer to find out. -Brian

Why Google loves developers

On Thursday, the company will host its first Google Developer Day, attracting 5,000 people to 10 locations around the world, including the San Jose Convention Center in California.
The conference is part of a company goal is to cultivate a better relationship with programmers, particularly those on the cutting edge of mashup development, a relatively new style of application development that combines information from different Web sites.
In conjunction with the conference, the company on Wednesday announced Google Gears, a Web browser plug-in that allows Web developers to add offline access to Web applications.
Google Gears is part of the company's strategy to court developers in order to make Web applications more capable--a goal that it is taking substantial steps to achieve, particularly for a company whose primary business is online search.
The company employs some of the key engineers in open-source software projects, including Linux kernel contributor Andrew Morton, and gives outside developers access to its services, often for free. Employees even write tools, released with liberal copyright and usage terms, to make the lives of Web developers easier.

Google Earth, the new weapon for tax collectors?

Santiago Montoya, the controversial Undersecretary of Tax Collection of the Province of Buenos Aires best known for his Tax raids on Sex Hotels has now effectively started using Google Earth to collect taxes in Argentina. With Google Earth he can see the size of buildings and collect fines if they exceed the floor to area ratios (200 buildings did), he can identified undeclared properties, in short he can do better from his office collecting taxes that he can do in the field. While many accuse Santiago Montoya of being a self promoter American style DA a la Giuliani, the thing is that sometimes these ruthless and creative characters are needed to catch criminals and tax evaders.
